Maxfactor Smoky Eye Effect Eyeshadow Review
Hi readers, just dropping by with a quick post – my Maxfactor Smoky Eye Effect Eyeshadow Review! I picked up this Maxfactor Smoky Eye Effect Eyeshadow at the weekend whilst I was browsing in Boots. It has been available in the shops for quite a while now, but I noticed recently that their colour selection seemed to have expanded so I decided to check it out…
The Maxfactor Smoky Eye Effect Eyeshadow is a double ended applicator which allows you to apply and blend to create that effortless smoky eye effect. I picked up the shade ‘Indigo Mist’ which comprises of an aqua/turquoise infused blue (which for some reason looks a lot paler in the swatch compared to when I applied it to the eye), round tipped applicator (step 1) on one end and a burgundy/bronze colour with a more pointed tip on the other (step 2). Having swatched both colours on the back of my hand I was initially impressed and although the shades are contrasting, I found them to be quite interesting together.
How I use it:
So basically I do as the applicators suggest, use the ‘step 1’ applicator first and then this is followed by the ‘step 2’ applicator. I apply the ‘step 1’ colour all over my eye lid and blend out the edges. Next I use the ‘step 2’ applicator and apply this colour on my lash line (I did apply this on the outer corner of my eye to begin with, but found it to be a bit much).
Verdict:
Ok, so in all honesty I am a little disappointed with the overall performance of the eyeshadow. I did not find that the colours when both used at the same time really complimented me as much as I’d hoped. Used separately I think they’re lovely, but together – not so much. Also my eye lids tend to get oily and this eyeshadow just does it no favours whatsoever.. By the end of the day the eyeshadow had creased and left an unattractive crease mark on my eye lid. The lasting power is not very impressive either. If you happen to touch your eyes at all, it will smudge right off! This calls for frequent reapplication, which is not ideal if you were looking to wear this for a night out. However all is not completely lost. I find that the Maxfactor Smoky Eye Effect Eyeshadow acts as a great eyeshadow base for layering on similar colours! Perhaps my £8 was not a complete waste afterall.
Has anyone else had a better experience with this?
