Strolling Around Southbank Market

Being in London, you’re never short of things to do because let’s face it, things are always going on in the capital! However while it’s nice to feel the buzz of the city, sometimes what I like best is to just take a nice leisurely stroll, soak up the sights and wander through a market.

Last Saturday (when the weather was actually glorious!) I ended up at Southbank as my destination of choice. I’ve only ever been to Southbank once but that visit involved a lot of (and I mean torrential downpour, a lot) RAIN. So needless to say we didn’t spend much time hanging around outside in the market and instead opted for shelter, which was the most logical choice.

However as I was saying, last Saturday was literally the perfect weather for taking a stroll by the river and taking in the market! We walked along the Thames and saw the usual hotspots such as the London Eye and The London Aquarium which were overrun with tourists, making the most of the good weather and parents taking their children on the final weekend out before half term’s over. After battling our way through the crowds we finally made it to Southbank Market and whilst there were still lots of people, the sight and smell of food quickly distracted me…

Here’s a few of the highlights:

Southbank Market definitely didn’t have as many stalls as others I’ve been to such as Camden and Brick Lane but it is definitely by far the most picturesquely situated what with it being close to the river. And although there were fewer stalls the food was still diverse and of top quality, making it equally worth a visit if you haven’t already been!

If markets aren’t really your thing there are other restaurants and bars situated along the Thames that might take your fancy, so it generally is a nice place to visit for everyone. 🙂

Have you been to Southbank Market before? What’s your favourite market to visit?
