Skin Care Series: Serums and Moisturisers

Hey, welcome back to the second part of my Skin Care Series! Sorry it’s taken so long to get the next parts up. Today I’m going to share with you, part two of the series which covers skin hydration and what serums and moisturisers I’ve found have been working best for my dry/combination skin type.

If you read part one of my Skin Care Series: Cleansing and Exfoliating, the next important steps after this is to moisturise and hydrate the skin. I first use a moisturising lotion which is the equivalent of a toner but more moisturising as the name suggests and then follow up with a serum and moisturiser.

I often get asked why I don’t use astringent type toners and it’s simply because I feel like these products are too harsh and they end up drying my skin out. For the past year or so I’ve using the Innisfree Green Tea Pure Skin Toner and Innisfree Green Tea Lotion and have found my skin has been responding well to both products and helps to take my moisturiser that tiny bit further for extra hydration. For additional pampering, often after exfoliating I like to use the Estée Lauder Advanced Night Repair Serum in place of the Innisfree Green Tea Essential Seed Serum as I want something a little more special to replenish the moisture in my skin as well as prevent the early signs of ageing.

I’ve also been using the B. Vitalised eye cream to keep the under eye area moisturised. It certainly is moisturising but sadly it’s made little difference to my dark circles/puffiness so I’m still on the hunt for a decent eye cream. Any recommendations are welcome!

With my dry combination skin I’ve tried a number of moisturisers before I’ve found the products I’m happy with and to date, I’ve been loving the Elemis Pro-Collagen Marine Cream (review coming soon).

As I creep slowly further into my 20s I’ve become extra conscious about anti-ageing and after getting this for my birthday, I’ve been using it regularly ever since. It’s a moisturiser but with an almost gel like consistency so not only does my skin feel nourished, it’s also light and doesn’t leave me looking greasy. I’ll do a full in depth review soon, but essentially this is my favourite moisturiser to use for day or night.

Alongside the Elemis Pro-Collagen Marine Cream I often use the Neal’s Yard Frankincense Hydrating Cream. When the weather was colder I used this more regularly but as the weather is much warmer now I only reserve this for my extra dry skin days!

Well that’s a wrap for part 2 of my Skin Care Series on serums and moisturisers! Stay tuned for part 3 where I talk about Masks and Treatments. 🙂

What’s your favourite serums and moisturisers?

Love Sophia xo
